apmhf hope acad studentsAsbury Park, NJ – The Asbury Park Musical Heritage Foundation (APMHF), in collaboration with Lakehouse Music Academy, is hosting Let the Music Play: Change a Child’s Life, a fundraiser for the continued support of the new music program at Hope Academy Charter School. The program is part of The Foundation’s signature Youth Initiative, which provides underprivileged youth in the Asbury Park area with access to quality music instruction.

Hope Academy is a local K-8 charter school that emphasizes a hands-on learning philosophy and a strong focus on academic success, enrichment and civic engagement. The new music initiative at the school was successfully rolled out in early September with instruction provided by professional musicians from Lakehouse Music Academy, a local progressive music school committed to the development of musical skills among students of all ages.

This initiative builds upon the success of a smaller project that Hope Academy carried out in partnership with Lakehouse during the summer of 2013. With funding secured for the project’s initiation, the goal is to sustain the in-class instrumental and vocal music program at the school, and broaden opportunities for attendance through their new after-school program, Hope Academy ESL (English as a Second Language). The after-school piece will promote small-group instruction and create a venue for performances and special events. The after school component also addresses an important concern in the community: keeping kids safe and engaged during those hours when they are most at risk.

The fundraiser will take place on Saturday, November 15th from 7:30 to 10:30 PM at the 5th Avenue Pavilion in Asbury Park, space generously provided by Madison Marquette. The event will include: a performance by the Lakehouse Music Academy All-Star Staff Band, free beer & wine, lite fare provided by Marilyn Schlossbach, a dessert bar featuring pastries from top local bakeries and sweet shops, auction and prizes.
