RED BANK, NJ - Open call auditions for Phoenix Productions’ revival of Shrek to be presented at The Count Basie Theatre in April, will take place on Tuesday and Wednesday, February 12th and 13th from 7 to 9pm, and on Saturday, February 15th from 11am to 3pm. All roles are open and will remain so until the close of auditions.
Shrek The Musical, based on the Oscar® winning DreamWorks film that started it all, brings the hilarious story of everyone's favorite ogre to dazzling new life on the stage. In a faraway kingdom turned upside down, things get ugly when an unseemly ogre - not a handsome prince - shows up to rescue a feisty princess. Throw in a donkey who won't shut up, a bad guy with a SHORT temper, a cookie with an attitude and over a dozen other fairy tale misfits, and you've got the kind of mess that calls for a real hero. Luckily, there's one on hand ... and his name is Shrek. Full of all-new songs, great dancing, breath- taking scenery, and amazing costumes, Shrek The Musical is part romance, part twisted fairy tale and all irreverent fun for everyone!
A large cast of excellent singer-actors, strong comic actors, with wide singing ranges & dance/movement ability are needed. Dancers who can sing and tap a plus. Seeking performers of diverse cultural backgrounds. Puppet training a plus. Fairytale creatures are highly featured, with speaking lines and solo lines in songs.
The Phoenix show will be directed by Rick Joyce, with musical direction by Joe Wajda, and choreography by Kelly Gemellaro. Auditionees should prepare 32 bars of a musical theatre song in the style of the show (contemporary “pop” musical theatre), but not from the show. They should also bring clothing suitable for an intense dance audition.
Auditions will be held at the Phoenix Rehearsal Center, 111 Monmouth Street Red Bank, NJ. The first rehearsal will begin in late February. Performances will be at the Count Basie Theatre beginning April 25th.
