bcc_peacemakersLINCROFT, NJ - On Sunday, May 5th,   Brookdale Concordia Chorale will be joined by the Concordia Youth Chorale in a rendering of Karl Jenkins’s vocal composition, The Peacemakers.  The concert will be held in the Performing Arts Center at Brookdale Community College at 7:00 PM.  Neighboring-community residents and students are invited to attend this free concert that is dedicated to peace.

Given the tragedy in Boston, the global tensions, the constant drumbeat of impending wars, and the terrorism and violence surrounding us, we are drawn to Jenkins’s  composition, which extols peace.  By weaving together words and texts of iconic figures like Gandhi, Martin Luther King, Mandela, Mother Teresa, Anne Frank, St. Francis of Assisi, the Persian mystic poet, Rumi, and Albert Schweitzer, and picking up texts from the Abrahamic religions and the Book of Isaiah, The Peacemakers  exudes a powerful  message for peace. With titles such as “Healing Light: a Celtic Prayer,” Nelson Mandela’s “Let there be Justice for all,” and “He had a dream,” an elegy for Martin Luther King, the music and lyrics of The Peacemakers calm the soul.  Jenkins dedicates this piece to lives lost in armed conflicts, particularly civilian lives.

Brookdale Concordia Chorale is made up of music majors at Brookdale Community College, as well as men and women from all walks of life from Middletown and surrounding communities who share a love for choral music.  Directors John and Cynthia Balme also direct the Concordia Youth Chorale and the Concordia Junior Chorale, and accompany these groups on tours to choral festivals and concerts in Europe, Canada, as well as the United States.
