Works by Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern at CVA Gallery, Lincroft

Lincroft, NJ, January 3, 2012 – The Center for Visual Arts (CVA) Gallery at Brookdale Community College will host “objex.desire,”   a solo exhibition by Lisa Ficarelli-Halpern from January 31 – February 29, 2012. The artist’s reception is scheduled for Tuesday, February 7th from 4:30 p.m. – 7:30 p.m. (snow date: Wednesday, February 8th from 4:30 p.m. -7:30 p.m.)

The show retrospective includes recent original prints, sculpture and more than two dozen paintings in oil on canvas and oil on linen. The works are inspired by classical Dutch ‘vanitas’ works and feature the juxtaposition of familiar objects that range from traditional to contemporary.

Recalling the content and technical virtuosity of old masterworks, Ficarelli-Halpern’s paintings provide a visual feast as well as an expressive message. As in the Dutch still lifes, her objects have both symbolic and referential significance.

Ficarelli-Halpern’s works also imply connections to the body, furthering an exploration of vanity. The artist describes her intent: “Using objects has allowed me to respond in a visual manner to how objects, particularly those of technology, symbolically provide us with comfort and security, and to how object-driven we seem to be in Western culture.”

An award-winning artist whose primary medium is oil painting, Ficarelli-Halpern is recipient of a Geraldine Dodge Foundation Grant and has participated in numerous juried solo and group exhibitions. In the recent nationwide juried show, “The 7th Annual Self-Portrait Exhibition,” in Chicago, IL, she was one of 146 artists chosen to participate as an emerging, contemporary painter.

Ficarelli-Halpern holds a Master of Fine Arts from New Jersey City University, Bachelor of Fine Arts from Parsons School of Design, and served as Senior Design Director for Polo Ralph Lauren Home Collection. She currently teaches painting and drawing at Brookdale and at New Jersey City University.

The CVA Gallery is located on the Lincroft main campus of Brookdale Community College, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. It is open Monday through Friday from 9:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. and by appointment. Admission is free to the exhibit and reception.
