RED BANK, NJ - Sunday, November 13, 2011, brings the 14th annual Mudslingers Art Show and Sale to Red Bank New Jersey once again.  The show is hosted by well-known potter Lauren Bellero who invites a different prominent local artist every year to also participate. This year’s show will feature beautiful paintings by Tracey C. Witter of Little Silver, NJ.

The show’s host, Lauren Bellero, is an award winning clay artist whose unique decorative and functional pottery has been shown in several galleries throughout the United States and in select local juried art shows.  Though her initial career was as a “professional” in a large company, Bellero eventually found corporate life to be a drain on her creative spirit. Remembering her apprenticeship with Pfaltzgraf Pottery as a high school student, she resurrected her early interest in clay and began what has become a nineteen year study of the medium.  She had rediscovered her passion and, in 2001, left corporate life to become a full time artist. Bellero’s specialty is “pit firing” which is an ancient technique of firing unglazed pots in an earthen kiln (hers is a 10’ x 4’ x 4’ deep pit on property she and her husband share in Canada). This type of surface treatment results in pottery with a distinctive flame-inspired palette and a natural, earthy feel. Pottery finished in this way is not for food use. However, Bellero also creates one-of-a-kind functional glazed ware for everyday use. More about pit firing and Bellero’s work can be learned by visiting her website:  mudslingerspottery.net.

Mudslingers’ featured artist this year is Tracey C. Witter. Witter has been painting and creating in some form or another for most of her life. She has attended the Art Institute of Philadelphia and has studied with local greats such as Muriel Rogers, Jane Lux, Tony Ventura, and Mary Gaynor. As a professional artist, Witter shares her view of the world in vibrant watercolors. She finds her inspiration in gardens and flowers and also enjoys painting still life. Though she has painted very detailed watercolors, Witter also loves to paint loose on a paper such as Yupo.  Yupo is a non-absorbent paper that prevents the paint from soaking in, allowing it rather, to flow on top and create a bright, fresh look. Witter has taught art classes in her home and in private studios. Currently, as co-owner of "The Art Room" in Little Silver, she helps inspire the young, and the experienced in their creative pursuits. Find out more about “The Art Room” at: www.go2theartroom.com.

This event offers live music too!  Jim Crawford, born in Glasgow, Scotland is a singer/songwriter whose muse awoke after a long hibernation in 2007 with the song “Team of My Father” and the CD of the same name. This led to playing at local open-mics such as Espresso Joe’s in Keyport and other venues. Crawford’s music was also nominated for Best CD and Best Song at the 2011 JAM Awards (Jersey Acoustic Music Awards) which honors the best the local scene has to offer in the world of unplugged music. Some of Crawford’s songs are about quirky characters he has known but his most recent work leans to commentary reflecting his concerns about the social and economic well-being of our country.

This popular free event will take place from 1 pm - 6 pm on Sunday, November 13, 2011.  View and purchase art in the comfortable and friendly setting of the potter's home while snacking on a variety of treats, or sit on the deck by the fire and enjoy live music and just have a good time! The show, which includes an all day hospitality reception, will be held at 39 Leroy Place, Red Bank, NJ, the home studio of Mudslingers Pottery.  Complete information can be found at www.mudslingerspottery.net or call 732-747-4853.
