Eatontown, NJ – On October 5th, the SCAN Adult Education Center celebrated 22 years of excellence at their 2010 Leaders of Distinction Awards Luncheon held at Seabrook Village in Tinton Falls. This annual awards luncheon honors local community leaders who have made significant contributions to improve the lives of senior citizens. This year’s honorees were Frank J. Vozos, MD, FACS, Exec Director of Monmouth Medical Center, Corporate Citizen’s Award; Mayor Gerald Tarantolo, Boro of Eatontown, Sister Mary Simon-Robb Humanitarian Award; Benjamin Levine, General Manager of Monmouth Mall, Ed Gorman Community Spirit Award; and Terry Bereheiko, Marketing Director of Monmouth Mall, Ed Gorman Community Spirit Award.

Thomas F. Hayes, Director of Customer and Community Relations of New Jersey Natural Gas and Chair of SCAN’s Board of Directors, presided over the meeting and presented the awards along with John A. Wanat, Executive Director of SCAN. In addition to the awards presented by SCAN, each honoree was given a special proclamation by State Assemblyman David Rible who is also a member of SCAN’s Board.

Also singled out for special recognition were several members of SCAN’s TV Production Class who had participated for 5 or more years with SCAN’s COTN-TV station in producing hundreds of educational TV shows. These shows are currently seen throughout Monmouth and Ocean Counties on local cable channels. Charles Burke, TV Production class Instructor and Director, acknowledged each member of the class to be inducted into the COTN-TV Honor Roll.

The Leaders of Distinction Awards Luncheon is SCAN’s largest event of the year. SCAN Adult Education Center was established in 1988 and is committed to providing the finest continuing education classes for adults.
