West Long Branch, NJ - “An Evening with Brian Williams & Friends,” celebrating the career and accomplishments of Brian Williams, Emmy & Peabody Award-winning anchor and managing editor for NBC Nightly News, is set for Thursday, September 23, 2010. The event will be held in Monmouth University’s Multipurpose Activity Center (MAC), located in the center of campus. The presenting sponsor is the Asbury Park Press; additional sponsors include Breeze Radio, Gem of An Idea, Marilyn & Ken Rocky, James P. Hickey, Jr. & Marcia Sue Clever, MD.
Brian Williams to speak at Monmouth U on Sept. 23
Tickets for the VIP reception and presentation are $75. Tickets for the presentation only are $25. All proceeds benefit the Monmouth University Department of Communication and its students.
A VIP reception will be held at 6:15 p.m. in the Varsity Club. Scheduled to attend the reception and participate in a journalist roundtable are some of the most recognizable names in broadcast news, including Anne Thompson and Dr. Nancy Snyderman of NBC Nightly News, Brenda Blackmon, anchor of WWOR’s My9 News, and Brian Thompson of NBC’s News 4 New York . The reception will feature complimentary beer and wine and an array of hot and cold foods – plus a live broadcast of NBC Nightly News on the arena’s jumbo screen.
The formal program begins at 7:30 pm with a journalists’ roundtable, featuring an entertaining exchange on the exciting world of TV journalism, with newscasters and friends of Brian’s from the news industry.
The event will conclude with a presentation by Brian Williams,formerly of Middletown, NJ, and the awarding of the 2010 Monmouth Award for Communication Excellence (MACE).
The MACE is given to individuals who have made significant lifetime contributions in the field of communications. Previous honorees have included CBS sports commentator Jim Nantz; founding financial editor of CNN Myron Kandel, newspaper publisher Jules L. Plangere, Jr.; and former White House correspondent Helen Thomas
