Long Branch, NJ - Love to read? Enjoy sharing your love of reading with others? Family & Children's Service (FCS), a nonprofit organization serving Monmouth County individuals and families in need for more than 100 years, is currently seeking dedicated adult volunteers to read aloud with children as part of the agency's Reading Buddies program. Reading Buddy volunteers commit at least one hour each week to read with young students in small group settings in the classroom. No previous experience is required, and training and books are provided. Run by the Retired Seniors Volunteer Program at FCS, Reading Buddies serves 18 public schools in Monmouth County, enriching the learning experiences of more than 1600 students from kindergarten through second grade. Interested adults should contact Kate Kingsbury at FCS at 732-222-9111 extension 153.
FCS was founded in 1909 by Long Branch community leaders to better the lives of their neighbors in need. Many original programs are still in place today, along with dozens of others that benefit individuals and families throughout Monmouth County. The agency has provided continual service to thousands of individuals and families. Education, intervention, care and counseling are the foundations of FCS, which welcomes local residents to family programs, senior programs, and a variety of programs for children. Most remarkable are the number of volunteers who continue to assist the agency. Some have volunteered consistently for over 50 years!
