Free Workshop at Brookdale

Lincroft, NJ- Do you know what’s happening – or about to happen in your town? Exercise your right to know; become a government observer and keep elected officials accountable and help ensure community issues are handled with transparency.

The League of Women Voters of Monmouth County will sponsor a free workshop on this topic Tuesday, August 10 at 7:00 p.m. It will be held at the Brookdale Community College Lincroft main campus, 765 Newman Springs Road in the MAS (Main Academic South) building, room 100. Parking is most convenient in lots 5 or 6.

Guest speaker will be Claire French, Monmouth County clerk. Participants will learn how to observe, how local meetings are conducted and how to access information. Learn how to keep tabs on local government, how to keep an eye on taxes, your property values and your child’s education. Find out what elected officials are planning and how and when to make your voice heard and counted.

Experienced citizen reporters Fenton and Barbara Hudson, Ocean Township, will share information on how they observe and report back to their community.  Learn how to do the same and hone personal skills in the process.

“Today there are fewer newspapers, radio and television stations reporting on local news. With so many problems facing us at the national level, it is easy to overlook what is happening in our backyards until it is too late,” commented Louise Usechak, County League Co-President.
