From horses to hot rods, county’s Tourism calendar lists them all

FREEHOLD, NJ – July in Monmouth County started with a bang, cruises on with classic cars, ends on high notes and is packed with about everything in between.

Do you want movies on the beach? Art shows, equestrian events galore, plays, farm markets, sports or tours? Maybe sandcastles, fairs, history or flea markets make your list. However you mix and match your tastes, there’s enough going on to occupy your family and you nearly every day or night.

The list is long and grows almost daily. Stay current at the Monmouth County Tourism Department’s Calendar of Events at or call 800-523-2587 to have an information package sent to you. Or, find a wide variety of literature at the department’s office in the Hall of Records Annex at 1 E. Main St., Freehold as well as out posts at the Monmouth Mall and the rest area at Garden State Parkway exit 98.

If you are looking for fireworks, Asbury Park has beachfront fireworks every Wednesday night, weather permitting. The opening night of the Monmouth County Fair, July 21, will also provided an out of this world fireworks display, weather permitting.

The New Jersey State Agricultural Fair is being held now through July 11 at the Horse Park of New Jersey in Allentown. For horse lovers, Dressage at the Park is July 17 and 18. The Monmouth County Fair will run from July 21 through July 25 at the East Freehold Showgrounds, Freehold Township.

Concert lovers rejoice: free evening concerts are everywhere throughout the month. Long Branch has them Tuesdays and Thursdays; Sandy Hook’s are Wednesdays; Belmar’s are Fridays; Atlantic Highlands has them on Sundays, and see local talent shine at Freehold Idol July 7 and 14. Monmouth Park hosts the hugely popular Vans Warped Tour July 18.

Car lovers rejoice: summer is the season for hot rods, customs, collectibles, classics and oddities that will keep you browsing for hours. Wall Stadium hosts Cruise Night July 9. West End Cruise Night in Long Branch is July 10 and Belmar’s Cruise Night is July 15. One of the biggest is Freehold Kruise Nite July 29, which attracts hundreds of vehicles and thousands of spectators.

Athletes have options, too. Bradley Beach will host its Lifeguard Invitational tournament July 19. Belmar’s annual 5-mile run is July 10. The sometimes wild and always exciting Big-air BMX Triple World Tour hits Asbury Park July 10. The Metroman Triathlon is there July 18.

There are more flea markets, movies, food festivals, garden tours, fairs and art exhibits than can be listed here. Check the Calendar of Events early and often because something’s bound to catch your fancy.
