MATAWAN, N.JThe Freehold Clippers exploded Tuesday with a 9-1 victory over the Jackson Langan Baseball Falcons at Dieter Johnson Memorial Field in Matawan, N.J. The game started off slow until the top half of the third, when the Clippers sent eight batters to the plate and earned three runs off four hits. The offensive rally all began when catcher Eric Wells (Athens, P.A. / Southern Vermont College) got on base with a one-out walk. The Clippers then combined for three consecutive hits by centerfielder Rodger Wilmot (Freehold, N.J. / Hartford University), first-baseman Frank Mormino (Howell, N.J. / Brookdale-Keystone College), and leftfielder Ed Martin (Hazlet, N.J. / Brookdale – Monmouth University) to take an early 3-0 lead.

The Falcons fired back in the bottom of the fourth as they got lead-off man Tom Spilatore (Kendall Park, N.J. / East Stroudsburg University) on base with a walk to start the inning.  With the help of back-to-back base hits by Jackson Boyd (Pittsburgh, P.A. / Duquesne University) and David Greer (Runnemede, N.J. / Catholic University), the Falcons were able to capitalize on a Clipper error to bring their first and only run to the plate.

The Clippers continued their offense throughout the game as leftfielder Ed Martin would led the team with three hits and three RBI’s on the day.  The game was called in the bottom of the eight on account of darkness as the Clippers held on to take home a 9-1 victory over the Falcons.

The Falcons will be in action again this Thursday, June 10, at 5:45pm at Matawan H.S. against the East Morris Blues, while the Clippers will travel to Hartford Crossing to take on the Protocall Starz at 7:00pm.
