West Long Branch, NJ - The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) will hold a public meeting regarding an upcoming rule proposal of the Coastal Zone Management rules and Coastal Permit Program rules.  The purpose of the informal public meeting is to take verbal suggestions from the public.  The informal meeting will be held on May 11, 2010 at 9:30 a.m. at:

The Department is seeking suggestions from the public on the Coastal Zone Management, and Coastal Permit Program rules found at N.J.A.C. 7:7E and N.J.A.C. 7:7, respectively, before the Department begins the administrative process to readopt these rules with amendments.  These chapters present the substantive rules regarding the use and development of coastal resources, to be used primarily by the Department's Division of Land Use Regulation in reviewing permit applications under the Coastal Area Facility Review Act (CAFRA), Wetlands Act of 1970,  Waterfront Development Law, Water Quality Certification (401 of the Federal Clean Water Act), and Federal Consistency Determinations (307 of the Federal Coastal Zone Management Act).  The rules are due to expire on March 21, 2011.

In addition, Governor Christie issued Executive Order Nos. 1 through 3, (2010), describing "Common Sense Principles" as they pertain to rulemaking. The Department will be seeking input on how the coastal rules fulfill the Orders.
