Lincroft, NJ —The Second Bio-Science Boot Camp, funded by a grant awarded under the Workforce Innovation in Regional Economic Development (WIRED) program’s Bio-1 Initiative from the US Department of Labor Employment and Training Administration, came to a successful completion with the awarding of “Life Sciences Career Transition Program” certificates from Brookdale Community College, Lincroft, NJ, to Fort Monmouth personnel who will not be relocating to Maryland when the Fort closes in September, 2011.

At the graduation reception, Mary Ellen Clark, Executive Director of Bio-1 remarked, “Bio-1 is delighted to have partnered with Brookdale Community College to develop this course.  The talent at Fort Monmouth is a highly valued segment of the New Jersey workforce and we hope that this course will ensure a smooth transition to the bioscience industry in New Jersey.”

According to Marie Lucier-Woodruff, Executive Director Outreach, Business and Community Development Brookdale Community College, “the goal of the program was to enable the students to identify positions within these industries where their government working experience and skills could be applied.”

The workshop  provided the students with an understanding of the drug development process, FDA history and organization and regulatory compliance.  The program also included a look at current and future developments in the biopharmaceutical, biotechnology, medical devices and pharmaceutical industries.

The curriculum for the program and the instructor for the workshop was developed by Patricia Koziol, Holmdel, who has extensive experience in the Biopharmaceutical and Pharmaceutical industries.  Guest speakers included:  Eugenia Pitts, Job Developer, Outreach, Business and Development, Brookdale Community College , who instructed the students on Resume Writing, Writing Effective Cover Letters and Interviewing Skills; Arlene Meyn, Career Development Transition Coordinator, CTSC LLC, Ft. Monmouth  who instructed the students on Interviewing Techniques and Dr. Delores Wong,  DJW Associates, Inc. who spoke on Clinical Research and Development.
