ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Area residents are invited to join the members and friends of the First Presbyterian Church of Atlantic Highlands for the 11 a.m. Sunday worship service, during which the Rev. Paul F. Rack will preach on the beginning of Jesus' ministry.

The pastor's sermon is entitled "Follow Me!" and is based on Scripture readings from Matthew 4:12-23.

The service will be held at the nearly 127-year-old church at Third and East Highland avenues.

"Establishing the theme of repentance for the sake of God’s Kingdom, Jesus begins his ministry by calling disciples," according to Rack. "The first ones drop everything, leaving their jobs and families, to follow him.

"What happens when something emerges in our lives that demands our complete and immediate response? Are we commitment-phobes? Would we recognize such an opportunity? Or would we find reasons to stay where we are, doing what we are doing?

"Jesus then goes around healing, which becomes one of the main things he was known for. True life is discipleship."

The David Nunez-directed adult choir will perform during the service.

Area residents are also invited to attend the pastor's weekly "Bible by the Bay" Bible Study at 11 a.m. every Tuesday at Sissy's Restaurant in the municipal marina.

The annual church congregational and corporation meetings, during which new officers and the 2017 budget will be considered, will be held follow church on Feb. 5.
