FEMA Media Relations in Washington, DC. issued the following statement in response to information regarding FEMA and Hurricane Sandy claims released by Congressman Pallone's office:
Let’s be clear: most people who filed flood claims after Hurricane Sandy were satisfied with their payouts and paid fairly. However, we also know many were not. That is why last year, FEMA established this unprecedented review claims process for policyholders who had doubts about their payouts. Our review of every claim in that process was completed weeks ago, and millions of dollars have been paid out as a result. A small number of those policyholders have voluntarily asked for their official review to be delayed so they may receive an additional review of our findings, and we continue to work through those to make sure every policyholder gets every penny they are due.
