October 25, 2016
Dear Friends and Colleagues,
It is with overwhelming friendship and gratitude that I write you today to announce I will not be running for re-election to the state Senate in 2017. I wanted you to be the first to know of my decision.
It has been the greatest privilege of my life to represent my district and the State of New Jersey in the Legislature. These past 28 years have been a true honor and I'll continue to serve until January of 2018. As you can imagine, it's not an easy decision for me or my family. But, having spent half my lifetime serving in the legislature, it's time for some new challenges and opportunities. And, obviously, the constraints and frustrations of serving in the minority and with the process is a factor.
I am extraordinarily proud of all I've accomplished - on issues ranging from job creation and the economy, to improving schools and protecting the environment and in helping people with their problems - big and small. Susan and I will of course continue to be active in our community and around the state and I'll stay involved in public affairs at home and nationally.
Thank you for your confidence and support over many years. I intend to stay in close touch!
God bless you, our state, and our great country always.
All the best,
