Early Sunday morning, a small group gathered at a beautiful and peaceful, Riverside Gardens Park in Red Bank for the annual 9/11 Memorial Ceremony. The solemn event is led by the Red Bank Elks Lodge 233 officers. Mayor Pat Menna spoke to the people about the sacrifices made by first responders, police and firefighters and the lives cut short by the events of that tragic day. The Elks ceremony highlighted the communal sense of loss we feel for those who perished and it encouraged the audience to the determination that America will persevere as the beacon of liberty and freedom.
The Chorus of the Atlantic, under the direction of Craig J. Page, performed The Star-Spangled Banner, God Bless America and The Irish Blessing for the assembled crowd of about 50 people.
There were refreshments of coffee and bagels at the Elks Lodge, next door to the park, at the conclusion of the ceremony.
