Summer Packet Help Available to Local Students

Leonardo, NJ – Summer is here and school is out, but help with school work is still available. The Community YMCA’s Bayshore Family Success Center is offering free tutoring and summer packet help on four Saturdays in July and August for children who need the extra help.

The center will be offering assistance to area students in grades kindergarten to eight on Saturdays, July 23 & 30 and August 6 & 13, from 10 a.m. to noon, at three locations:

  • Bayshore Family Success Center
    Henry Hudson Trail Activity Center
    945 State Highway 36
    Leonardo, NJ
  • Union Beach Library
    801 Union Avenue
    Union Beach, NJ
  • Keyport Public Library
    109 Broad Street
    Keyport, NJ

The free community education program will be available to help keep kids engaged in learning in the summer with the help of high school tutors ready to assist with any summer packets assigned by teachers.

“This program helps give kids a strong start to the school year,” said Alicia Maresco, director of volunteer and community partnerships for the center. “When children see progress, it’s a tremendous confidence builder, which is an achievement in itself,” she said.

The program is another way the Y is helping to close the achievement gap, which refers to barriers related to learning, particularly during the summer break.
