SHREWSBURY, NJ (March 29, 2016) - On Saturday, April 30, The Community YMCA is hosting Healthy Kids Day, a free community event to inspire more kids to keep their minds and bodies active now and through the summer.

Families are invited to play games, exercise, dabble in arts and crafts, sample healthy snacks, view nutritional displays and discover that fun and fitness go together. Parents and guardians will also get plenty of great ideas for activities to keep kids active during the summer, a time when children kids are more prone to gain weight and fall behind academically.

A national YMCA initiative to improve the health and well-being of families and kids, the Healthy Kids Day event will take place at two of The Community YMCA facilities:

  • Family Health & Wellness Center, 166 Maple Ave., Red Bank, 07701, from 1 to 3 p.m. Featured activities include a basketball contest, a family fitness class and games led by local Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts.
  • Camp Zehnder, 3911 Herbertsville Road, Wall, 08724, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Walking tours of the 140-acre camp will also be available and families can help prepare camp gardens and take home their own vegetable and herb plantings. Teens interested in summer employment are also invited to attend.

Healthy Kids Day is supported locally by Hulafrog.
