As a National Student Poet, Eileen acts as a literary ambassador, hosting workshops and readings in her region and community as part of a year-long community service effort. In addition, she was given the opportunity to read her poetry to First Lady Michelle Obama at a private ceremony in the White House. Much of her poetry focuses on her Chinese heritage, cultural fusions, and the general turmoil that comes with adolescence.
As a poet in a STEM school, 16-year-old Eileen Huang navigates through many clashing cultures. In her talk, she will discuss her experiences as a writer in a STEM school and show audiences the many possibilities in a poem, creating a space for the genre in a silicon world.
The TEDxNavesink 2016 Makers conference will be held on April 9th from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Monmouth University’s Pollak Theatre. The conference will feature talks by 30 pioneering makers from New York, New Jersey and around the globe.
Coincidently, this April marks the 20th Anniversary of National Poetry month.
