EATONTOWN, NJ - The Monmouth County SPCA hosted its official Grand Opening/Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of their new Pet Pantry Building on Friday, January 29, 2016, at 6pm. Attendees of the event included State Senator Jennifer Beck, Freeholders Serena DiMaso, John P. Curley and Tom Arnone, Sherriff Shaun Golden, County Clerk Christine Hanlon, Eatontown Mayor Dennis Connelly, as well as Wayne Pacelle, CEO of HSUS, Patrick McDonnell, creator of the comic strip MUTTS, MCSPCA CEO Chief Ross Licitra, Medical Director Dr. Nicole Feddersen, and many board members, supporters and staff.
The Pet Pantry was established during Superstorm Sandy, when it became clear that people were being put in the position of having to choose between paying for their own necessities, and those of their beloved pets. Through generous donations and an outpouring of support from the community, the Pet Pantry started providing low-cost or free supplies to pet owners, resulting in less pets being surrendered to local shelters. For the last 3 years, the Pet Pantry was housed within the Maureen O’Brien Thrift Store, located at the Eatontown Shelter, but due to the overwhelming need, plans for a larger space were established. The pantry currently services over 1,100 families and with the opening of the new building they will be able to serve more.
The Pet Pantry accepts donations of dry dog food, wet dog and cat food, dry cat food, cat litter and some other supplies like leashes and cat toys. Funds raised through the Pet Pantry go towards purchasing food to stock the shelves and towards spay and neuter surgeries for pets receiving support through the program. To qualify for the MCSPCA Pet Pantry, you must have proof of spay/neuter of your pet (or willing to spay/neuter), show proof of income, and provide a valid photo ID. The Pet Pantry is open Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 9am-4pm, and Wednesday 9am-1:45pm.

The Monmouth County Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals was founded in 1945 to care for the community's homeless, neglected and abused animals. Our mission is to protect and advocate for all animals.
We are dedicated to enforcing animal cruelty laws; providing a safe haven for homeless, abused and abandoned pets while they await adoption; reducing pet over-population through spay/neutering; and cultivating their humane treatment through education and service. In 2015 we cared for more than 4,200 animals. The Monmouth County SPCA relies solely on private donations to fund these important initiatives.
We provide services to the community including pet adoptions, low cost spay/neuter services, a weekly vaccine clinic, dog training and behavior, humane law enforcement, lost and found, trap neuter and return for free-roaming cats, humane education, pet therapy, a pet food pantry for low-income families as well as our Pittie Project, a proactive program to help keep Bully Breeds out of the shelter and improve their lives in the community.
