WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker (both D-N.J.) on Wednesday issued the following statement after the Senate voted to confirm John Michael Vazquez as United States District Court judge for the District of New Jersey.

“This day has been a long time coming, and New Jerseyans who have waited to have their day in court will find a dedicated public servant with great legal acumen in Judge Vazquez,” said Senator Menendez, who recommended Vazquez for appointment. “He is an eminently qualified and experienced jurist who fully embodies respect for the notion of equal justice under law. I hope this confirmation builds the momentum we need to make progress in filling vacancies in the federal bench and address New Jersey’s judicial emergency.”

“I congratulate John Vazquez on his confirmation as a US District Court judge,” said Sen. Booker. “Mr. Vazquez has shown himself to be deeply committed to public service, supremely talented and qualified, and devoted to the values of fairness and equal justice. Today, I celebrate all that New Jersey stands to gain from his continued leadership in this new role, and I hope the Senate continues to move swiftly to fill vacancies on the federal bench.”
