ATLANTIC HIGHLANDS, NJ - Justin Cirullo of Boy Scout Troop 47, chartered to the Knights of Columbus in Leonardo, recently earned the highest honor in Boy Scouts, the Eagle Scout Award. Less than five percent of all Boy Scouts attain this honor.

“Receiving my Eagle award represents a big achievement for me. It is the biggest thing I have tried to do and through a lot of hard work I accomplished it,” said Justin Cirullo

For his Eagle Scout Project, Justin renovated a playground for Mother Teresa Regional School in Atlantic Highlands. He oversaw a group of volunteers who painted over the lines of an old parking lot and then they installed basketball, kickball, four square and hopscotch courts, and a small-sided soccer field on an adjacent field. Justin said “I picked Mother Teresa for my project because soccer is my passion and I liked the idea of building a soccer field for the school’s students.”

In his seven years with Troop 47, Justin has served in many leadership positions including Patrol Leader and Senior Patrol Leader and currently serves as Junior Assistant Scoutmaster. He has eagerly participated in many camping and outdoor activities including High Adventure Camping.

Justin is currently a senior at Red Bank Catholic High School and plans to enter college in the fall to study Business and Economics.

Eagle Scout is the highest rank awarded by the Boy Scouts of America. Since the first Boy Scout earned his Eagle award in 1912, the distinction has been earned by more the two million young men. Requirements include earning more than 21 merit badges and demonstrating ideals of service and leadership, including organizing and leading an extensive service project. Fewer than five percent of Boy Scouts nationwide attain this illustrious rank.

Justin Cirullo received his Eagle award at a Court of Honor on January 9 at 1:00pm St Agnes Catholic Church, 103 Center Avenue, in Atlantic Highlands.
