SANDY HOOK, NJ - What better way to start the year than with a brisk hike, some shared refreshments, and our annual attempt to signal across the bight?
Join the American Littoral Society for a beach walk at 11 a.m., Friday, Jan. 1, regardless of weather. Meet at American Littoral Society headquarters, 18 Hartshorne Drive, in the Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area. The walk will be about two miles in length.
Afterwards, warm up at Littoral Society HQ with hotdogs, coffee and hot cocoa. Potluck dessert contributions will be welcomed. The walk is free. Reservations are not required.
In keeping with our 31-year tradition, at noon we will attempt to signal a contingent from the Society's Northeast Chapter that will be hiking near Ft. Tilden, NY. Past attempts have involved light reflectors, bottle rockets and smoke signals.
