HIGHLANDS, NJ - In a cowardly act of desperation, Liberty Natural Gas withdrew their application for the Port Ambrose LNG project. In a letter made public on the federal docket yesterday, less than 24 hours after it was submitted, Holland & Knight, the Washington, DC lobbying firm for Liberty Natural Gas LLC, informed the Maritime Administration and U.S. Coast Guard that they have withdrawn the licensing application for Port Ambrose.
The proposed liquefied natural gas facility was vetoed by Governor Cuomo on November 12th, however, that veto letter has yet to be posted or found on the docket, regardless the veto remains in effect. It is required by statute that MARAD follow through on the statutory schedule and complete their deliberation, ending with a final Record of Decision (ROD) denying the Port Ambrose application.
“Liberty Natural Gas can run, but they cannot hide. Their wrongful proposal is dead in the water,” said Cindy Zipf, Executive Director of Clean Ocean Action. “MARAD must issue a Record of Decision denying the application by February 3rd as required by law.”
