bcc astronaut greg olsen 2LINCROFT, NJ – Community members of all ages are invited to a special presentation by entrepreneur, scientist and civilian space traveler Greg Olsen at 7 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 3 at Brookdale Community College in Lincroft.

After a successful career as a research scientist and an entrepreneur in the technology industry, Olsen became the third private citizen to orbit the earth aboard the International Space Station (ISS) in 2005.

In his presentation to local students and community members, Olsen will discuss his months of preparation for the mission, his launch in a Russian Soyuz rocket and his ten days aboard the ISS, where he orbited the earth more than 150 times and logged nearly four million miles of weightless travel.

 

Olsen will also discuss his professional career, in which he was awarded 12 patents and made more than $600 million in the fiber optics and sensors industries. Today Olsen serves as an “entrepreneur in residence” at Princeton University, and regular speaks to students about the value and benefits of pursuing a career in science or engineering.

The presentation, hosted by Brookdale’s Physics and Astronomy Club and STAR Astronomy in Red Bank, is free and open to all. It will be held in the Brookdale Student Life Center, 765 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. Parking is in lots 6 and 7.
