OCEAN GROVE, NJ - You’ve just received your cancer diagnosis and your mind is flooding with questions and overwhelmed with the need to know answers, where do you turn to? What you need in that moment is a Doctor that will take the time to answer every question you have, but you forget most of them while in their office! “He would call me on Sunday and tell me that they are changing the dosage for chemo,” Debrah Forrester of Spring Lake Heights says of her experience with Dr. Mencel when helping her father go through chemo. “I do not have enough words in my vocabulary to describe how awesome he is. He took care of my father for over 3 years, and was more than just a doc to us. Incredible human being, will ALWAYS be grateful to that man. My father actually looked forward to going to Chemo!! How insane is that!!!”
When a woman is going through her battle of cancer there are few places she can turn to that will give her a place to rest and recuperate, Mary’s Place by the Sea not only provides unconditional care during their time of extreme need but does it at NO COST to their guests. Guests are welcome to stay a few hours or a few days, if needed. Some of the services offered to guests are oncology massage, nutritional counseling, guided meditation, yoga, strength training and in-room spa services. They need somebody who understands them and this is what Mary's place is, they understand them. I'm inspired very much, it's a very spiritual place.” says Dr. Peter Mencel.
Co-Founder Michele Gannon speaks about honoring Dr. Mencel “He has been instrumental in working with us to provide complementary care for his patients and our guests. Honoring him at our 2nd Annual OceanFront Bash is a small way to let him know he is our Healthcare Hero.” John Fudge of Spring Lake says about Dr. Mencel, “He’s a wonderful human being, he treated my mother like his own. I’d give him a kidney if he needed one!”
The first care center was opened in the summer of 2009 and currently operates at 15 Broadway Avenue in Ocean Grove as a 4 bedroom home. Mary's Place is currently building a 10-bedroom home so that they will never have to tell a woman she has to wait to receive these services, which have nearly 5,000 women feel loved and supported.
On October 3, 2015 at the Berkeley Oceanfront Hotel Mary’s Place by the Sea will hold their 2nd Annual Ocean Front Bash.
