MIDDLETOWN, NJ - An Atlantic Highlands teenager has succumb to injuries sustained Tuesday evening when she was struck by a vehicle while crossing State Highway 36.

Middletown police said the girl, Marissa Procopio, of Atlantic Highlands died at 3:46 p.m. Wednesday at Jersey Shore University Medical Center.

On July 7, 2015 at approximately 8:25 pm Middletown Police responded to a report of a hit and run pedestrian accident at the intersection of Highway 36 and Avenue D.

Police said the girl was struck "by a vehicle travelling west bound on Highway 36. The vehicle, a light grey compact car fled the scene prior to police arrival. The juvenile was flown to Jersey Shore Medical Center by the New Jersey State Police Medivac helicopter."

Police reviewed video tape from a local business provided by Michael D'Alessio.  Police located the female driver of the car, Toni Marletta, age 49, from Leonardo, NJ. No charges have been filed at this time. The investigation is being conducted by Cpl. Thomas Russo of the Middletown Township Police Traffic Bureau.
