PASSAIC, NJ - A husband and wife team from Passaic are doing what they can to help those in need. Together with local volunteers, they have formed the N.J. Food & Clothing Rescue.
The group recently worked with the YMCA, 600 Broad Street in Newark, New Jersey to provide outreach to the homeless community. A dozen volunteers helped load and transport six vehicles filled with nearly 7000 pounds of donated clothes, coats, food, personal hygiene and baby items. They then set up and distributed items for about 4 hours to nearly 400 residents at the shelter, including many children.
Afterward, four volunteers continued the outreach near Penn station by handing out 80 new, very heavy, hooded vests, warm stretch hats, clothes and bags containing personal hygiene items and snacks and sandwiches.
