Changing the World, One Girl Scout Cookie at a Time
FARMINGDALE, NJ - Cold weather got you down? Here’s something to smile about – it’s time for the Annual Girl Scout Cookie Sale! Beginning Friday, January 16th through the end of April, thousands of Girl Scouts throughout Monmouth and Ocean counties will sell these time-honored tasty treats and are excited to get in gear for another great season.
"Selling cookies makes me feel like I can succeed at anything!” said Girl Scout Cadette Laura Randall from Manahawkin. “I love bringing smiles to people's faces when I deliver their cookies."
While selling cookies is fun for the girls, the sale teaches them important life skills such as goal setting, decision making, money management, people skills and business ethics. When you purchase a box of Samoas (which is celebrating its 40th birthday this year!), you’re giving her the tools she needs to succeed. In addition to teaching these valuable skills, the Girl Scout Cookie Sale also provides girls with multiple opportunities to raise funds towards goals they’ve set for themselves. Whether it is a trip overseas or a day at the beach, Girl Scouts achieve those dreams through determination and teamwork.
"I’m really looking forward to setting goals to sell more cookies than last year!" said Brownie Girl Scout Madison Cusmano from Farmingdale.
New this year to the Girl Scout cookie lineup are the Rah-Rah Raisins, hearty oatmeal cookies with plump raisins and Greek yogurt-flavored chunks; as well as the gluten-free option, Toffee-tastic, a rich, buttery cookie with sweet crunchy toffee bites. Also, for the first time ever, hungry shoppers will be able to purchase cookies where they never could before — online! Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore is participating in Digital Cookie, a first-of-its-kind web platform that lets girls sell cookies from their own protected, personalized websites. Digital Cookie strengthens, expands and enhances the Girl Scout Cookie Program by combining the values and lessons of door-to-door and booth sales with crucial 21st century business and entrepreneurial skills, continuing Girl Scouts’ long tradition of preparing today’s girls to be the female leaders of tomorrow.
Equally as important, proceeds from the Girl Scout Cookie Sale benefit other organizations within our community. Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore is running its ‘Jersey Shore Cares’ program where Girl Scouts can donate boxes of cookies to worthwhile causes, including the Food Bank of Monmouth and Ocean Counties, and the United States military.
