MIDDLETOWN, NJ – Despite the rainy weather, visitors to Poricy Park enjoyed the annual Apple Fest on Saturday, October 11, 2014.
The rainy day didn't dampen the spirits and fun of apples for those who participated in this annual Park favorite. Apple Fest is part of the Poricy Park Phantasmic Fall Series of Events.
Special thanks to Investors Bank of Middletown for sponsoring Apple Fest making it possible to offer the event for free to the community. Delicious Orchards of Colts Neck graciously provided the variety of apples for everyone to enjoy.
Visitors were able to discover their favorite type of apple while learning about this versatile fall crop. Participants put their shoulders to the cider press to press apples and Park staff demonstrated how to dry apples. There was even a pie eating contest for young and old alike!
All community and summer camp programs are run by Poricy Park Conservancy, a non-profit 501 (c) (3) organization. Poricy Park is located at 345 Oak Hill Road in Middletown Township. With exceptional ecological resources, the 250 acre historical and nature site makes it one of the largest parks in Monmouth County. The Park offers recreational activities such as magnificent wooded hiking trails, bird watching, pristine pond settings, fishing, and a one-of-a-kind 70 million year-old Cretaceous fossil bed.
