RED BANK, NJ - We’re nearing the 30 day countdown to our 34th Red Bank Crop Walk now in mid-September, Hunger Action Month. CROP WALK SEASON 2014 took big steps with a Kick Off Rally at the First Baptist Church complete with our “Evening News” skit by the Teen Leaders to tell the story of Why We Walk as Crop Walkers, and to announce our goal of $115,000 and a food collection of rice beans, and peanut butter for the 34th Annual Crop Hunger Walk. This year’s theme - “WE WALK WITH HEART AND SOLE TO END HUNGER AND CHANGE THE WORLD” resonates when we hear that 1 in 7 New Jersey residents is hungry, and we want to make a place at the table for everyone.
Sunday, October 19th at Red Bank Regional High School, 1000 participants will gather to register for the 5 mile route through Fair Haven, Red Bank, and Little Silver, to raise funds for 17 local hunger fighting partners and to fill the shelves of local food pantries with a goal of 14,000 pounds. CBA students, staff, and friends will sort, count and pack for delivery all of this food for local food pantries, by the end of the day. Volunteers from local high schools, Rotary groups, and local partner Habcore will staff water stops, and volunteers of all ages will fill in with all the tasks needed to make a successful event! You can be a part of this special day. Registration begins at 1 pm and the Walk start is 2 pm. We will share Broad Street in Red Bank with the annual Halloween Parade, so plan on a colorful and lively walk.
Walk Day is fun for all ages – an art contest, music by J & J music, clowns, Oasis Backyard Farms organic garden table, and displays from our partner programs. Invite your friends, family members, get your sponsors, form a team, bring your food, and come join in! If each of us takes a step, we will be able to make a big difference by supporting the daily work of our local partners, and helping to sustain families who have lost everything due to natural disasters and manmade disasters which leave families hungry, thirsty, homeless, jobless, and unable to continue education. Help us Change The World!!
