FARMINGDALE, NJ - The Girl Scouts of the Jersey Shore will pay tribute to three individuals from Southern Ocean County during its annual Women of Achievement and Community Partners Cocktail Reception. Eileen Dolan, Meridian Health; Deborah Mathis, Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A.; and Robert Stohrer, Manahawkin Shell are each role models for area Girls Scouts, using their remarkable personal and professional accomplishments to live the Girl Scout mission of helping girls grow into women of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place.
Sponsored by Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A., the Women of Achievement and Community Partners Cocktail Reception will take place Wednesday, September 17, from 6:00–9:00 pm at Element Restaurant & Bar in Manahawkin. Eileen Dolan, RN, Meridian Health
Eileen Marie Dolan has resided in New Jersey for her entire life. She became a registered nurse and practiced in Newark, NJ. She met her husband, Patrick F. Dolan Jr., and married in 1960. She put her career on hold to raise six children and foster three children. She was happily married for 33 years when she lost her husband to breast cancer in 1993. In 1989, Dolan returned to nursing at Southern Ocean County Hospital where she celebrated her 25th anniversary this year.
She is the proud grandmother of 20 grandchildren. Dolan has been an active parishioner and volunteer of St. Francis of Assisi and St. Theresa’s Church. She volunteers at the local food bank and also donates all of the proceeds of her homemade knit scarves to this cause. Dolan was also a first responder in the aftermath of Sandy. She assisted with providing food, clothing, and lodging to victims of the hurricane. Every year, Dolan sponsors housing for players on the LPGA tour who are playing in the area. She has run numerous charity golf tournaments to benefit the hospital and her church. She is presently an active volunteer and board member of Interfaith, a neighbor-helping-neighbor organization. She is a talented crafter, an avid golfer, and enjoys playing bridge and traveling. Throughout the year, you will see her at many various sporting events cheering on her grandchildren.
Deborah Mathis, CPA, CHBC, Cowan, Gunteski & Co., P.A.
Deborah Mathis, CPA, CHBC, is a shareholder of a regional accounting firm and a leader in the healthcare consulting industry. As a Certified Healthcare Business Consultant (CHBC), Mathis is uniquely trained and experienced in both the financial and operational facets of medical and dental practices. Mathis has worked with many of the major health systems in the state as they have been developing an integrated provider strategy for the new health care environment. Her strong accounting and tax foundations have enabled her to find creative solutions for her clients, in an industry that has seen constant changes in regulations and reductions in reimbursements over the past decade.
Mathis is a frequent speaker and author on topics related to medical practice management and revenue enhancement for physician groups, hospitals and various medical associations. She has been a featured speaker at the national Medical Group Management Association (MGMA) convention. In addition, she has presented at the annual NJ MGMA Practice Management Conferences and the Atlantic Regional Osteopathic Conventions many times over the last several years.
Mathis is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants and the New Jersey Society of Certified Public Accountants. She is a past president of the United Way of Ocean County. Currently, she is the secretary of the Southern Ocean Medical Center Foundation Board of Trustees and trustee of the Meridian Health Professional Care Committee. She received the Warren G. Christenson and Young Altruistic Professional Awards from United Way in 2006 and 2010, respectively. She was included in the NJ Biz 2007 Class of Forty Under 40 and 2010 Class of Fifty Women of Distinction.
Robert Stohrer, President, Manahawkin Shell
Robert R. Stohrer is a familiar presence at meetings around the Southern Ocean County Hospital where he served as a Trustee on the past Southern Ocean County Hospital Board. Stohrer currently serves on the SOMC Foundation Board and the Major Gift Giving committee for the new emergency room. Over the past 20 years he has served on numerous Hospital and Foundation committees. He is deeply committed to the Hospital’s mission to give the community the very best in wellness and health services.
Stohrer continually demonstrates his dedication to his community. He has served as past president on the Long Beach Island Rotary, is on the Board of Directors and has earned the Paul Harris Fellow Recognition honor. Stohrer has also received the Art Schwerzel Good Scout Award from the Boy Scouts of America, the James J. Mancini Award for Community Service, the Appreciation Award from the NJ Travel Industry Association and an award for outstanding and dedicated Vocational Service from NJ Vocational Assembly. He also received fundraising recognition from the American Cancer Society, Southern Regional Wrestling and Football Teams.
Stohrer has served on the Board of Directors for Stafford Township Business Park Commission, Alliance for a Living Ocean, NJ Gasoline Retailers Association, and the Southern Ocean County Chamber of Commerce where he is currently a member. Stohrer serves on the Shell Dealers National Board of Directors, is a past president, and has received several Dealer of the Year Awards. Stohrer is on the Board of Directors of the “Taste of the Nations Annual Fund Raising Event and chaired the Rotary “Christmas Auction” for the past 28 years. He is a past member of the Long Beach Island Board of Education and the Long Beach Island Planning Board.
From 1966 through 1970 Bob played professional football for the Hamilton Tiger Cats CFL, Hartford Knights ACFL, and the Washington Redskins NFL. Stohrer has sold Quality Tire and Muffler in 2012 but is still very active at Manahawkin Shell and Stohrer’s Towing, both located in Manahawkin for the past 43 years.
