First Lady's Relief Fund To Distribute $3.5 Million to Non-Profits Assisting in New Jersey's Long-Term Recovery Efforts
Morristown, NJ - The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund, an independent non-profit organization chaired by First Lady Mary Pat Christie, announced today the launch of its fifth and final grant cycle. The Relief Fund will award $3.5 million in grants to New Jersey based non-profit organizations supporting the long-term recovery of the Garden State.
"While this fifth grant cycle is the Fund's last round of awards, it is not the end of our grant-making process," said First Lady Mary Pat Christie. "Funding is dispersed in two or more installments to grantee organizations and the Relief Fund monitors each project's effectiveness and progress to ensure funds are used in accordance with the original grant proposal."
The Relief Fund will begin accepting applications today from eligible non-profit organizations providing Sandy specific disaster relief and recovery services. Applicants must be a registered 501(c) 3 tax-exempt non-profit. Proposals will be evaluated on several criteria including organizational capacity, track record of success, project alignment to priority funding areas, clarity of project implementation, budget detail, expected outcomes, and opportunity for impact. The minimum grant request is $10,000. The online application, grant eligibility requirements and a Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) can be found on the Fund's website at: https://SandyNJReliefFund.org.
Today's announcement brings the total to be granted by the First Lady's Relief Fund to $37.2 million. Since inception the Fund has allocated 96% of donated dollars to programming and granting, and only 4% toward fundraising and administrative overhead combined, well below the Charity Navigator efficiency benchmark of 25% of budget for fundraising & administrative overhead.
The Hurricane Sandy New Jersey Relief Fund will continue to post all grant awards on its website and track distributed dollars from start to finish, ensuring our grantees deliver the promised assistance to families and communities.
