Campaign to Provide Advocates for Kids in Foster Care
Eatontown, NJ – CASA for Children of Monmouth County and Groupon Grassroots (http://grassroots.groupon.com), the philanthropic arm of Groupon, announce the launch of a local campaign to Provide Advocacy Services for Children in foster care.
The Advocates for Kids in Foster Care campaign (http://www.groupon.com/deals/casa-for-children-of-monmouth-county) will be available on the Groupon Grassroots page beginning on May 16th, and run through May 23. Utilizing Groupon Grassroots’ collective action model, Groupon subscribers can pledge support for the Providing Advocates for Kids in Foster Care initiative in increments of $10.
If 60 people donate $10, then CASA for Children of Monmouth County can provide four months of advocacy services for one child. Each additional $600 raised will be used to provide four months of advocacy services for another child.
“We are excited to employ the collective action model of Groupon Grassroots to raise support for advocacy for children in foster care,” said Cynthia Van Brunt, Executive Director. “We look forward to creating new awareness for CASA for Children as one of the local organizations in Eatontown to be featured on Groupon Grassroots.”
One hundred percent of the Groupon Grassroots campaign proceeds will be used to provide court-advocacy services for a child who has been abused or neglected.
Currently, approximately 600 children from Monmouth County were in foster care last year because of having been abused or neglected. Many of those kids are on the waiting list for a court advocate to serve as their voice throughout legal proceedings. These court advocates often become the most consistent person in their child’s life since they get to know each child personally, visiting them at their foster homes, daycares, and schools. They also review medical information and check in with the children's teachers to follow their progress at school after a family trauma.
