LINCROFT — Have a green thumb and love spending time in the parks? You might have what it takes to become a member of the Monmouth County Park System’s Pruning Team. This group of dedicated volunteers helps the Park System tidy up and maintain the health of trees and shrubs in several park locations. Those interested in learning more are invited to attend a free Pruning Trees and Shrubs Workshop at the Thompson Park Visitor Center, 805 Newman Springs Road, Lincroft. The workshop will cover correct pruning techniques, tools and safety. Open to ages 14 and up, sessions will be held on Wednesday, April 2 and Thursday, April 10 from 9am-12noon.
Gardeners are sure to enjoy the flexibility of the Park System’s gardening Drop-In Volunteer Days. Held mid-April through October, volunteers are welcome to show up at their convenience and participate. The schedule is as follows:
- Tuesdays (starting April 8) at Dorbrook Recreation Area, Colts Neck
- Wednesdays (starting April 9) at Thompson Park, Lincroft
- Wednesdays and Saturdays (starting April 23) at Deep Cut Gardens, Middletown
- Thursdays (starting April 10) at Huber Woods Park, Middletown
Drop-In Volunteer Days hours are 9am-12noon at all locations. Please note that volunteers at Deep Cut Gardens must be 16 years of age or older. Volunteers do not need to attend the training session to be part of the Drop-In Volunteer Days. On-site training will be provided as needed.
