Sale of all items will begin to close at 6 p.m. Oct. 23

FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen Freeholders has announced that the fall 2013 Monmouth County surplus auction will begin Oct. 19 and continue through Oct. 23.

“The online surplus auctions continue to serve the County well,” Freeholder Gary J. Rich, Sr. said. “It provides a greater benefit in terms of revenue and makes it easier for bidders as they can monitor the sale though their computers. Another benefit is that we get many more bidders, including some in other states.”

Surplus property from the County’s Fleet Services, Sheriff’s Office, Bridge Division, Buildings and Grounds, Park System and Reclamation Center plus seized and surplus property from the Prosecutor’s Office will be sold.

The auction will be conducted by Auction Liquidation Services. A full list of the auction items will be posted online at closer to the auction date. Pictures, descriptions, terms of sale and other information will be available.

Items for sale will be available for viewing from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, and Tuesday, Oct. 22. Most items will be available at the Public Works and Engineering Complex, 250 Center St., Freehold; heavy equipment and other specialized items can be viewed at the County Reclamation Center at 6000 Asbury Ave., Tinton Falls; a sailboat and forklift will be available for viewing at the Monmouth Cove Marina at 200 Port Monmouth Rd., Port Monmouth.

Online bidding for all items will commence at 9 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 19 and will begin to close at 6 p.m. on Oct. 23. All bidders must pre-register with the auctioneer at

Successful bidders will be able to pick up their item or items at the County’s Public Works Complex at 250 Center St. in Freehold and Monmouth Cove Marina at 200 Port Monmouth Rd. in Port Monmouth between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Oct. 24 and 25. Items from the Reclamation Center at 6000 Asbury Ave. may be picked up between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. by appointment only. Viewing and pick up at the Reclamation Center must be arranged with Jerry Alloco by calling 732-890-5191.

Successful bidders who do not pick up their items at the County’s Public Works Complex and Reclamation Center by 3 p.m. on Oct. 25 will be liable for storage fees equal to 2% of the sale price per business day until the merchandise is removed by the buyer, for up to 10 business days.  

The County began conducting its surplus property auctions completely online in 2008. To date, the online auctions have netted more than $2 million dollars for the County.


 “In addition to expanding the bidder base, having the entire auction online eliminates weather concerns and reduces labor issues,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone, liaison to the Department of Public Works and Engineering. “Previous surplus auctions produced a cost to taxpayers because they were held only on the weekend, which accrued overtime expenses for setup, oversight and security.”

“We expect to have another surplus auction in the spring,” added Rich.
