Red Bank, NJ — Visiting Nurse Association Health Group announced Vikranta Sharma, MD as the Medical Director of Hospice and Palliative Care. Dr. Sharma brings years of health care leadership and hospice and palliative care experience to the organization. She officially assumed her leadership role with VNA Health Group on July 1st 2013.
Dr. Sharma has served as the Hospice Medical Director at Gentiva, formerly known as Odyssey Healthcare. More recently she was the Associate Medical Director of Vitas Innovative Hospice Care.
In these roles, she supported and supervised nurses during their care of complex end of life patients.
As a senior manager she was responsible for setting team goals and targets as well as educating and supporting both non-clinical and clinical staff.
She has been an active primary care physician in Middlesex County since 2007 and was the founder of Monroe Internal Medicine Associates.
Dr. Sharma provides Palliative medical consultation as the Director of Palliative program at the CentraState Medical Center in Freehold New Jersey.
Dr. Sharma finished her Internal Medicine residency at the SUNY Health Science center at Syracuse New York. She received her Bachelor of Medicine and Surgery from University of Delhi, Maulana Azad Medical College in India. She is also certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and American Board of Hospice and Palliative Medicine and an active member of the American Academy of homecare physicians.
Dr. Sharma says, “As America is aging, the health care system needs to step up its involvement in care coordination of our vulnerable adult population with multiple complex medical issues. Addressing goals of care and advance health care directives ahead of time and honoring these wishes, when the time comes, has never been more important. We need to strengthen our local healthcare systems so we can take care of our own. This vision needs an involved community effort and leadership. She resides in Cranbury New jersey with her husband and two sons.
