LINCROFT — With cool weather and colorful leaves, autumn is perhaps the best time of year to enjoy all the Monmouth County Park System has to offer. Whether you’re looking to rent a boat, play a round of golf, or just relax, the Monmouth County Park System is the place to be thanks to its 15,000 acres of parks, woodlands, meadows and beaches.

Boating is a great way to explore the parks anytime of year. Besides being fun, it’s an exciting way to view wildlife and offers excellent fishing opportunities. Rowboats and kayaks are available for rental at the Manasquan Reservoir, Howell, through the last weekend in October.   Canoes, kayaks and paddleboats are available weekends at TurkeySwampPark, Freehold, through Columbus Day. TurkeySwampPark also offers a family campground. Open until November 15, the campground is a great getaway that’s not too far away. The campground accommodates tents and RV’s and offers two cabins for rent. For more information, call 732-462-7286.

After spending the night under the stars, hit the greens with a round of golf! The Park System offers five championship courses, two 18-hole executive facilities, and a 9-hole par 3 course.

Experienced golfers love the challenge of Hominy Hill and Charleston Springs golf courses while beginner golfers find Bel-Aire the place to learn the game. No matter what their level of experience, golfers are sure to find a course that is just right for their level of play.

There’s no better way to soak up the season than with a walk in the parks. From an easy stroll to a challenging hike and everything in between, the Park System has it all. By offering over 120 miles of trails, park visitors have plenty of choices for hiking, running, inline skating, and horseback riding. Those looking for a little peace and quiet can spend an hour or two under a tree reading a book, sketching a picture, or just watching the clouds drift by.
