clearwater 2013LONG BRANCH, NJ - The 38nd Annual Clearwater Festival, New Jersey's oldest and largest eco-festival, will be on the Great Lawn oceanfront in Long Branch for the first time Sunday September 15.  The free event runs from 11 am to 7 pm

This family friendly event combines information on protecting the environment with live music performed by top-rated performers in a variety of styles from rock and soul to jazz, folk and blues on three stages.  You will also find traditional summer festival fare including food, crafts, storytelling, and a special children's area with face-painting and other attractions. The Circle of Song members will make music with their instruments and voices and encourage festival-goers to join in the fun.

"We are thrilled to be in Long Branch right on the ocean and we hope that board walkers as well as music lovers and those who care about our natural resources will join us," said Ed Dlugosz, President of New Jersey Friends of Clearwater, the festival sponsor.

He noted that recent hurricanes, droughts, rising sea levels and melting ice caps underscores the need for everyone to become  more educated about  the environment.  More than a dozen environmental groups will be at the festival providing exhibits and information about ways individuals and families can make a difference in their daily lives and there will be green vendors..  The 6th annual Environmental Justice Roundtable at 2 pm will feature urban and workplace leaders discuss environmental and health injustices disproportionately affect the young, old, poor and people of color.

The New Jersey Friends of Clearwater is a non-profit group that advocates for the environment year-round and provides education in schools and other gatherings.  It was formed in the early 1970's after a visit from folk singer and environmentalist Pete Seeger and named for his sloop Clearwater.
