Holt and Grijalva to discuss what reform means for small businesses and public services in New Jersey
TRENTON, NJ - On Friday, August 30 at 11AM, Representatives Rush Holt (NJ-12) and Raul Grijalva (AZ-3) will present a new report produced by the Center for American Progress and the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME, AFL-CIO) showing how comprehensive immigration reform that provides a path to citizenship—such as the U.S. Senate-passed S. 744—benefits New Jerseyans. They will call on their colleagues to endorse reform and work for its passage in the U.S. House of Representatives.
The report examined S.744’s economic impact in New Jersey and calculated changes in some of the state’s key economic indicators, such as gross domestic product, residents’ income, and job growth. It predicts that granting citizenship to the state’s undocumented workers will grow their incomes and increase the number of immigrants starting small businesses. This will result in a substantial expansion of economic activity, job growth, and taxes revenue for New Jersey.
Rep. Rush Holt will present the findings of the report. He will be joined by Rep. Raul Grijalva to urge the support of comprehensive immigration reform that includes a roadmap to citizenship, such as S.744, which the U.S. Senate passed on June 28 with strong bi-partisan support. Rep. Grijalva has become a national figurehead in the fight for comprehensive immigration reform, representing a state that has been at the forefront of immigration issues.
