Middletown, NJ - Sen. Joe Kyrillos, Assemblywoman Amy Handlin and Assemblyman Declan O'Scanlon won their primary battle in the 13th Legislative District. The incumbents defeated challengers Leigh Ann Bellew, Edna Walsh and Stephen Boracchia, who ran under the “Republicans for Conservative Leadership” banner.
Kyrillos drew 5,859 votes, or about 79% of Republican votes cast for Senate candidate to Bellew's 1,576 votes.
In the General Assembly race, Amy Handlin and Declan O'Scanlon each captured 39 percent of the vote with Walsh and Boracchia, who drew about 11 percent each.
Kyrillos will face Democrat Joseph Marques who won the Democratic Primary today with 1,995 votes or 99.65% of the total.
Handlin and O'Scanlon will face Democrats Allison Friedman and Matthew Morehead in November.
Voter turnout was light with 26,097 voters, or 6.15% of 424,029 voters in the county eligible to vote in the primary.
The 13th Legislative District includes: Aberdeen, Atlantic Highlands, Fair Haven, Hazlet, Highlands, Holmdel, Keansburg, Keyport, Little Silver, Marlboro, Middletown, Monmouth Beach, Oceanport, Rumson, Sea Bright and Union Beach.
