Online sale of used government property continues to be successful
FREEHOLD, NJ – The Monmouth County Board of Chosen
The County began conducting its surplus property auctions completely online in 2008.
Surplus property from the County’s Fleet Services, Bridge Division, Buildings and Grounds, Park System and Reclamation Center plus seized and surplus property from the Prosecutor’s Office was sold to the highest bidders.
“This spring auction included 99 items for bid, including over 50 vehicles,” said Freeholder Director Thomas A. Arnone. “These surplus auctions are beneficial for both the County and our residents, who are attaining these items for a fraction of their actual cost.”
Generally, the County has two auctions a year – spring and fall. The auctions are coordinated by the Department of Public Works and Engineering, Division of Fleet Services with assistance provided by the Purchasing Division.
“By continuing to conduct the surplus and seized property auctions online, the County eliminates the need to pay overtime for security and item pick-up,” said Freeholder Gary J. Rich, liaison to the Purchasing Division. “The online auction has made this process a revenue stream.”
The auction was conducted May 4 through May 15. As usual, vehicles made up a good share of the items that hit the auction block. Also on the auction list were office and lawn equipment, heavy construction equipment and other miscellaneous items.
The auction was conducted by Auction Liquidation Services of Eatontown. A complete list of the items included in the auction was viewed online with pictures and descriptions, as well as terms of sale and other relevant information.
