MIDDLETOWN, NJ -  A mother and her daughter were found dead inside their Middletown home overnight, Acting Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher J. Gramiccioni announced.

Diane Young, 54, and her daughter Jacqueline Young, 27, died in a fire inside the home they shared at 30 Ideal Ave. in the North Middletown neighborhood of the township. Middletown Police received a 911 call from a neighbor at 10:47 p.m. Tuesday reporting the structure fire. Police and Firefighters from East Keansburg Fire Company, Belford Engine Company, Port Monmouth Engine Company, Middletown Air Unit and Middletown EMS units responded to the scene.

The victims were the only residents in the home. Autopsies performed Wednesday for the two victims determined the cause of death was due to smoke inhalation.

Under standard protocol, a joint investigation into the origin and cause of the fire was undertaken by the Middletown Township Police Department, Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Office, Monmouth County Fire Marshall’s Office and the Monmouth County Medical Examiner’s Office, with assistance from the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office.

The origin of the fire was on the second floor of the home and the cause has been determined to be accidental.
