Trenton, NJ – Furthering the Christie Administration’s commitment to assist New Jersey students in pursuing post-secondary education opportunities, First Lady Mary Pat Christie today launched a new continuing education scholarship through her New Jersey Heroes initiative. The $5,000 Spirit of a Hero Scholarship, which builds upon an earlier program for military veterans, is now available to students graduating from high school.

“I’ve met so many young people who are doing good work throughout our state to help improve the lives of others and give back to their communities,” said Mrs. Christie. “Through this Spirit of a Hero Scholarship program, we hope to provide deserving students with the ability to follow their dreams and desired career path to a successful future.”

To be considered  for the scholarship, candidates must meet several criteria, including a demonstrated commitment to volunteerism and community contribution; be a New Jersey resident and U.S. Citizen; submit a high school transcript and a letter of recommendation from a current teacher or advisor; be in good academic standing with their secondary school and enroll as a student at an accredited college/university or a vocational training school in the 2013-2014 school year (Fall or Spring Semester).

Application forms are available online at the New Jersey Heroes website: The application deadline is April 12, 2013. Applicants must fully complete the form by no later than 5:00 p.m. on April 12, 2013 or submit an application via US Mail postmarked no later than April 12, 2013 and mailed to NJ Heroes, P.O.
