TRENTON, NJ - Senator Joe Kyrillos (R-13), a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, said that the nominations of David Bauman and Robert Hanna to the New Jersey Supreme Court deserve a swift, thoughtful and fair consideration by the Senate.

Kyrillos issued the following statement in response to the nominations:

“The Governor has once again nominated a pair of individuals who appear to have the requisite qualifications to serve on our state’s highest court.

“David Bauman serves as the Presiding Judge of the Civil Division of the New Jersey Superior Court in Monmouth County. His experience on the bench, in private practice, and in service to our nation in the Marine Corps is impressive. As one of my constituents, I supported David’s nomination to the Superior Court and helped usher him through the confirmation process. I am proud to support David once again, and proud that Monmouth has put forward someone of his stature for consideration on the Supreme Court.

“Bob Hanna has decades of legal experience serving the public in a variety of roles. Most recently, as President of the New Jersey Board of Public Utilities, Bob oversaw the efforts of our utility companies to restore service to millions of customers within days of Hurricane Sandy.

“It is clear that both David and Bob have the experience and qualifications that we would expect of Supreme Court nominees. They deserve to be treated with respect in a thoughtful and civilized confirmation process.

“Some members of the Senate have abused their constitutional duty of advice and consent in the recent past in an embarrassing display of partisanship. I sincerely hope that they have learned from their mistakes.”
