Tinton Falls, NJ – Despite lingering storm clouds and a chilly dampness in the air, over 300 people turned out to support The Arc of Monmouth’s 14th Annual “Step Up for The Arc” Walk and inaugural 5k Race at Liberty Park II in Tinton Falls. The event raises funds for health care, education and other critical programs for individuals with Down Syndrome, Autism and other intellectual and developmental disabilities (I/DD). Thanks to generous support from sponsors, donors, runners and walkers, the event raised over $32,000.

The day began with over 50 people running the professionally timed and recorded 5K race; a great start that promises an even bigger turnout in coming years. The top male and female runners were Joseph Rooney of Howell with a time of 15:02 and Teresa Wilbert of Wall at 19:35. Following the race, over 230 Walkers took to the track, followed by a hot dog lunch courtesy of the Lodges of the 17th Masonic District. Bagels, coffee and water were donated by Wegman’s, Starbucks, US Water Treatment and Shore Point Distributors.
Throughout the day, Meridian Health’s Dr. Bernard entertained the children while DJ Nicky, an individual served by The Arc of Monmouth, provided music and an inspired rendition of The Star Spangled Banner. Assemblywoman Caroline Casagrande was also present to cheer for the walkers.
The event was coordinated with the help of over 40 volunteers, including support from the Tinton Falls Borough Police, Office of Emergency Management, EMS South and Wayside Fire Departments. Lead event sponsors include The Anabel Foundation, CareOne, IPPC Pharmacy, Byron Real Estate, Mack-Cali Realty, Bayada Home Healthcare and Network 21.
The Walk is one of several annual events that raise greatly needed funds for a wide array of programs at The Arc. The next major fundraiser is the annual Golf Classic, to be held on Monday, June 11 at Jumping Brook Country Club. www.arcofmonmouth.org/golf.
