TINTON FALLS – As its 14th year approaches, The Arc of Monmouth’s “Step Up for The Arc” Walk is getting a fresh new companion: a 5K Race in support of individuals with Down Syndrome, Autism and other Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (I/DD). Both the Walk and 5K will occur on Saturday, May 5 at Liberty Park II (1420 West Park Ave, Tinton Falls).
At 7:00 am, 5K runners can check-in or register, with the professionally timed and recorded race beginning at 8:00 am. The race route is police monitored and follows closed sections of Wayside Road and West Park Avenue. Registration is $20 by April 30, $25 after April 30 (includes a free Walk/5K t-shirt). Pre-registration, race map and other details are available at www.arcofmonmouth.org/5k.
At 9:00 am, Walk check-in and registration begins, with bagels and coffee available to walkers and runners provided by Wegman’s of Manalapan and Starbucks of Shrewsbury. Walking commences at 10:00 am, followed by a hot dog lunch courtesy of the Lodges of the 17th Masonic District. Walk participation is free, but participants are encouraged to raise tax-deductible pledges in support of The Arc of Monmouth. Pledge earners of $25 and up receive a free t-shirt, and higher pledge earners are eligible for gift cards and other prizes. Participants can pre-register as individuals or teams at www.arcofmonmouth.org/walk.
“An impressive 200 walkers attended last year’s event, and we are expecting the new 5K race to double participation,” commented Executive Director Mary Scott. “We are very excited to add the race component, which directly funds critical programs such as health care, education and recreation services for over 1,400 individuals with I/DD.”
