23rd Annual Event on January 16th Focuses on Community Service

Middletown, NJ – Community service will be the focus of the 23rd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial Breakfast hosted by The Community YMCA and the YMCA of Western Monmouth County on Monday, January 16, 8 to 10 a.m., at Branches, 123 Monmouth Road in West Long Branch.

All who attend this year’s event, which celebrates the life and legacy of Dr. King and his extraordinary service to others, will have an opportunity to sign up for a community service project.

“As a cause driven organization that is committed to service and fostering a sense of social responsibility to strengthen the communities we engage, we believe encouraging volunteerism is a great way to honor Dr. King,” said Richard Ayres, Interim President and CEO of The Community YMCA.

This year’s event will feature speaker Abraham Lopez, executive director of the New Jersey Center for Hispanic Policy, Research and Development, a role he was named to by Governor Chris Christie and Lt. Governor Kim Guadagno in March 2011.

The breakfast program will also include music from the youth choir from St. Stephens AME Zion Church, Asbury Park, reflections on Dr. King from Y Teen Achievers and Alpha Phi Alpha, along with presentations to winners of the Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. essay contest and the recipient of the Monmouth County Prosecutor’s Humanitarian Award.

All are welcome to the event. Tickets are $25 for adults and $10 for youth (12 and under).  For reservations, call Pam Martino, at The Community YMCA, (732) 671-5505, ext. 13 or e-mail This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it..
