BOONTON, NJ - The Monmouth County Firemen’s Association along with the Passaic County Firemen’s Association held their annual Christmas Party at the New Jersey Firemen’s Home in Boonton on Sunday, December 18th.
The party is run through the volunteer efforts of the members of the associations and paid for by the generous donations of Fire Departments throughout the state. Residents of the home are delighted by the entertainment of professional musicians along with the Manasquan Fire Department’s “World Famous” Kazoo Band. After the entertainment, Santa Claus makes a very special appearance and gift bags are given to each person including items such as clothing, toiletries, flash lights, coffee mugs, blankets, towels and more.
The New Jersey Firemen's Home was established in 1898 through the generosity of the Lathrop Family and by an act of the New Jersey State Legislature to care for the aged, indigent, and disabled firefighters of New Jersey. It is licensed and regularly inspected by the New Jersey Department of Health and Senior Services to operate as a long-term care facility and residential healthcare facility. The nursing units are staffed twenty-four hours, seven days a week; the Home's physician makes rounds five days a week and is on call twenty-four hours a day.
The New Jersey Firemen's Home is the only nursing home in the State of New Jersey dedicated exclusively to the care of all firefighters continuing their mission of dedication to New Jersey's bravest men and women. It is also the home of the New Jersey Firefighters Museum which contains many pieces of antique firefighting equipment. The museum is open daily from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. and all are welcomed.
